WellSpring Christian Church, based in Spring Hill, Tennessee was in the process of building a new facility and they wanted to create a Grand Opening campaign to communicate to the public about this momentious occastion.
WellSpring wanted to communicate the message that the building is not the goal at all, though. The goal was simply to reach more people. Through conversations and brainstorming with the marketing team, the phrase “Building Something Eternal” was coined. With this idea in mind, I crafted the following materials in support of the campaign.
The Design Theme
After the main theme “Building Something Eternal” was penned and confirmed (by the crack marketing duo of Wendy Stephenson and Scott Hancock)—the first thing that needed to be created was the over-arching design theme for the campaign. Using architectural renderings as the guidelines for the shape, I created a typographical-driven design that utilized the actual shape of the new building.
Within the shape, I used a variety of words and phrases that were meaningful and relevant to the overall mission of the church.
This design concept was very well received as it clearly drove home the point that the church is really about the people and the lives that are changed—and not the building itself. This design can be seen on the cover of a bulletin design below.
Direct Mail & Handout
A direct mailer that doubled as a handout was one of the first pieces to be created. These were mailed out and handed out to members of the community who lived nearby where the new church building was to be built. The card was a 2-sided design with the theme and graphics on the front and messaging and contact information was on the back side.
Facebook Page Graphics
Social media was heavily used as a way to spread the message to the community about the new building that was being built in Spring Hill, Tennessee. At different stages in the campaign, the facebook cover and timeline graphics were updated to promote the grand opening.
Vinyl Banners and Exterior Signage
Large vinyl banners were placed near and around the building leading up to the grand opening. These banners were eight feet wide and three feet tall, and were printed in full color to show off the eye-catching graphics from the campaign.
Powerpoint Templates
Powerpoint templates were created for church staff so that the look and feel of the campaign could be consistent across all mediums. From the exterior signage, to printed to materials and online graphics down to the slides viewed on Sunday mornings, everything was on-brand and visually helped to tell the story in a compelling way.
Yard Signs
Free yard signs were provided to those that wanted them so WellSpringers could help spread the word in their own neighborhoods. These eye-catching yard signs were great conversation starters and helped those passing by to know about the big event coming up.
When it was all said and done, WellSpring had an amazing turnout at the Grand Opening event. An additional 300 people joined the already-growing congregation of 350 regular attenders—and the church has been growing exponentially ever since.
The Lord has blessed WellSpring and I am glad I have been able to be involved in some small way.
