Have you ever heard (or said) any of these before?

• We need to get ‘branded’!

• We have a brand—check out our logo!

• We got branded just last month.

These statements—and many others like them—make it seem like the process of building a brand is a very transactional thing.
The reality is, it is not.

Branding is really more of a ‘journey’—it’s not a specific destination where you can say “it’s done!”

From your business logo, to the printed materials, the website, your social media voice—even how you interact on a personal level with customers—it’s all of that and so much more. And the act of branding is a process—not a thing to check off a to-do list.

Wouldn’t you agree that the act of building a business brand is a longer term investment?

Just like everything that has value—valuable brands are built over the course of time through trust and positive experiences.

Wanting to have a business that has a strong brand is a critical goal for any business owner. Many experts now say that building a strong visual brand has never been more important. Think about it—pretty much anyone can put up a website these days with the tools and resources available. This just means that you have to try that much harder to differentiate yourself from the competition. But, to think it can happen overnight by simply creating a few graphics or a catchy slogan is short-sighted.

Your brand is not your logo

YES!—you do need a great logo, (and I would love to talk to you about that if you’re interested).

But I encourage my clients to think bigger than the logo. Don’t put all your hopes and dreams into the “logo basket”, or else you may end up being let down, no matter how awesome your new logo is. The logo is the starting point and foundation for everything else.

Think bigger—think about the many ways your business is interacted with by people, customers or users. How can you take the essence of your business and instill that into every experience. I love talking with people about customizing packages to give them the tools they need to start down the road of branding a business.
